The city of Granada, with its ancient, medieval buildings, narrow, cobblestoned streets, colorful North African souvenir stands, plentiful outdoor restaurants and tapas bars, and live street music, is one place in Spain you really need to visit.
What NOT to Do in Granada
Our guidebook clearly states “a car is useless in Granada.” Why we thought we knew better than the guidebook writer, I do not know. It had something to do with the logic that, well, we have a car, we might as well use it. So we did indeed take our car into Granada. Twice. And we paid for that mistake miserably both times.
The Winter Wonderland of Vallée de Joux

Tracking Down the Best Fondue in the World
You can’t very well visit the land of cows and not eat the cheese. Fondue, after all, is Switzerland’s national dish; they’re famous for it! So you can bet they do it better than anyone. It doesn’t hurt either that Switzerland produces the highest quality milk in the world—the Swiss, in general, are all about quality and attention to detail, from their watches to their cheeses. Costa Rica is Fabulous in Rainy Season!
This is our son Julien when he was four years old. We took two weeks to travel through Costa Rica in September, during the rainy season. It’s a great time of year to go because you avoid the crowds, and the rains mostly came in the afternoon, around 3 p.m., once we had finished our day’s activities. We enjoyed seeing lizards and monkeys on the beach at Manuel Antonio National Park.
We rented a car and drove from there to plenty of other locations along the same stretch of ocean, and then went inland to visit and hike around the volcano, splurging a little on a beautiful resort there. Seafood, sand, volcanoes, swimming pools, and riding on cables through thick rainforest. Costa Rica is gorgeous and has a lot to offer.
